How to Get Rid of Spiders Using Pest Control

  In advice

I’ve got two young adult teenagers (still children in my eyes 🙂 and I remember both of them on many occasions have called on me “hey dad, there is a spider in my room can you please get it out”.

And, they wouldn’t even go inside their own room due to seeing a small spider on the wall. When I begin to remove the spider from their room, I am always shocked at its size, it’s tiny. I usually turn around and tell my “Son, look at the size of that spider, and look at the size of you. That spider is probably more scared of you than you are it, so you shouldn’t be scared to handle it”.

Well, this is nature of us humans, some of us are scared of tiniest of insects, whereas others keep large tarantula wolf spider as a pet. So, if your property around LA is in need of some good old pest control expertise controlling spiders, our team of expert pest controllers ‘Maximum Pest Control Services’ is here to share some tips and insights regarding spiders you may see around your home.

Having spider webs around the house is never a pleasant sight. Although you won’t struggle with nor be cocooned inside a spider web like Frodo Baggins, consistently seeing spider cobwebs around the property is just annoying. Not to mention the dreadful thought of spiders lurking around the property when you are a sleep.

Though most spiders you’ll see around your property aren’t harmful to humans, no one likes to see one crawling through the walls in their home. Spiders make their home at places where they can get food which is almost always other insects including flying insects (Common house fly, Mosquitoes and others).

Spiders produce silk in their abdomen glands called spinnerets. They use their web to catch and trap prey, as a food storage, also as a protective layer for their egg sacs.

At this stage you may even think, well, why not just leave them alone because they can actually be beneficial in keeping other bugs and pests away. Surely, but it is natural to fear spiders and no one wants to live with them inside our homes, they have lots of legs and just look creepy. Also, their bites can cause serious health risks especially young children with allergies.

How to Get Rid of Spiders from Your Home

  • Remove Cobwebs Immediately: spiders are predators which use silky webs to catch their prey. They are efficient cobwebs creators. That means, as soon as you see their cobweb anywhere around the property, simply get that good old broom and remove the web itself.
  • Vacuuming: maintaining cleanliness and regular vacuuming is another great way to keep spiders away. This also gets rid of spider webs and egg sacs. Even the old, abandoned cobwebs may have egg sacs which will get removed when vacuumed. The spiders sucked into the vacuum cleaner usually die instantly.
  • Remove Other Insects: spiders make homes in and around areas where they can get a food supply. Removing other bugs and insects from the house will ensure spiders can not find food thus move elsewhere. You can even work with a professional pest control management company to fix the entry points for other pests and insects. Leftover food should also be cleaned quickly to keep away ants and other insects which attract spiders.
  • Organize Your Space: Untidy and unorganized spaces provide perfect spots for spiders to hide and build their nests. Left over piles of material (wood piles, bricks etc.) in the backyard will tempt spiders to make cobwebs and start producing egg that turn in to baby spiders. Get rid of old magazines, newspapers and cardboard pieces too. Regularly inspect around the property including the attic and remove any cobwebs from unfrequented spaces.
  • Cleaning around the house: Do not forget to clean and declutter the area around the house regularly because most pests such as cockroaches, rats, mice, spiders seek shelter at places where they can easily hide. Remove piles of wood and rock piles if any. Ensure that the windows and doors are in good condition without cracks, and do not forget to seal any cracks and openings in and around the property.
  • Turn off the lights: Any outside light such as the ones near the doors and windows attract bugs and insects and Black Widow and Recluse spiders will follow those other insects for a tasty dinner. If you must use lights outside, then, consider insect zapper lights, or keep the outside lights away from near the doors and windows.
  • Use Pesticides and or Insecticides: pest control chemicals when mixed correctly and safely could also be used to get rid of spiders and other insects. Pesticides are particularly useful in case of serious pest infestation. However, any chemical treatments when used incorrectly can be very harmful for the children, and thus, must be used with utmost care. It’s always better to speak with a licensed pest extermination experts when dealing with insecticides and pesticides to avoid problems.
  • Natural Remedies: in case you don’t want to use harsh chemicals, you can always opt for natural remedies. Peppermint oil and or Vinegar can be used as such natural pest control measure. Due to its strong smell, it often helps in driving the black widow, recluse, sac and wolf spider species away. You can mix a few drops of oil or vinegar along with water in a spray bottle and use it around areas you notice spiders
